17 Sanctify them through thy truth:
thy word is truth.
Why does GOD want us sanctified?
What is His purpose?
The Bible explains it beautifully.
That we may know He is LORD.
Exodus 31:12-13
King James Version
12 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you.
That sin may be destroyed.
Romans 6:6

6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
That we may be free from sin.
Romans 6:18

18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
That we be made holy, and have eternal life, through JESUS.

22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

2 Corinthians 5:17

That we may be free from the "snare of the devil".
2 Timothy 2:26

That we might be "partakers" of GOD's holiness.
Hebrews 12:10

That we may be made "perfect", to do the will of the FATHER.
Hebrews 13:20-21
