A LIFE of SANCTIFICATION

 John 8:7

King James Version

7 So when they continued asking him,

he lifted up himself,

and said unto them,

He that is without sin among you,

let him first cast a stone at her.

I'd like to share a VERY CLEAR lesson on SANCTIFICATION which I learned from Joseph, my Bible teacher in 2020.

The words are all his.

Verses below were all chosen by him.

It is with GREAT delight I share his work here.

Once we become born again, all our sins, past, present, future, are forgiven! In that sense, we are justified and positionally pure, sinless, in God’s sight because Jesus paid the price for all our sins by His death. He died in our place so we may live! Here’s one supporting verse:

Ephesians 2:1

King James Version

2 And you hath he quickened,

who were dead in trespasses and sins;

On another hand, practically or experientially, we cannot completely free ourselves of sin for the rest of our lives. It can be minimized but not completely eradicated. In other words, one cannot attain perfect obedience everyday for the rest of our lives. The best we can do with the help of the Holy Spirit is to live a life of sanctification, where we undergo spiritual growth or maturity day by day until we leave this earth. The sanctification process is achieved by walking in step with Jesus, through God’s Word  The degree of one’s sanctification will depend upon one’s rate of obedience to God’s Word.

For the rest of our lives as born again Christians, the challenge to stay away from sin will always be there. Paul himself had this challenge.

Romans 7:14-25

King James Version

14 For we know that the law is spiritual:

but I am carnal,

sold under sin.

15 For that which I do I allow not:

for what I would, that do I not;

but what I hate, that do I.

16 If then I do that which I would not,

I consent unto the law that it is good.

17 Now then it is no more I that do it,

but sin that dwelleth in me.

18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,)

dwelleth no good thing:

for to will is present with me;

but how to perform that which is good I find not.

19 For the good that I would I do not:

but the evil which I would not, that I do.

20 Now if I do that I would not,

it is no more I that do it,

but sin that dwelleth in me.

21 I find then a law,

that, when I would do good,

evil is present with me.

22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

23 But I see another law in my members,

warring against the law of my mind,

and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin

which is in my members.

24 O wretched man that I am!

who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God;

but with the flesh the law of sin.

Of course, Jesus is the solution and verse 25 deals with one’s sanctification process.

Unbelievers have only one nature, the sinful nature, mainly because they don’t believe in Jesus, the gospel, and God’s Word.

1 Corinthians 2:14

King James Version

14 But the natural man receiveth not

the things of the Spirit of God:

for they are foolishness unto him:

neither can he know them,

because they are spiritually discerned.

Born again Christians have two natures, the sinful nature remains but we are now given a divine nature. Because the sinful nature remains, we can still sin, but now that the divine nature is there, we have the ability to defeat sin. This battle between these two natures remains! As Christians we must do our best to put to death our sinful nature during our lifetime.

Note that these verses were addressed to the Colossians, a body of believers, a church. (Not to unbelievers.)

Colossians 3:2-10

King James Version

2 Set your affection on things above,

not on things on the earth.

3 For ye are dead,

and your life is hid with Christ in God.

4 When Christ,

who is our life,

shall appear,

then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

5 Mortify therefore your members

which are upon the earth;

fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection,

evil concupiscence, and covetousness,

which is idolatry:

6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh

on the children of disobedience:

7 In the which ye also walked some time,

when ye lived in them.

8 But now ye also put off all these;

anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy,

filthy communication out of your mouth.

9 Lie not one to another,

seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

10 And have put on the new man,

which is renewed in knowledge

after the image of him that created him:

Note verse 5, the existence of an earthly or sinful nature.

Colossians 3:5

King James Version

5 Mortify therefore your members

which are upon the earth;

fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection,

evil concupiscence, and covetousness,

which is idolatry:

The Bible is a rich source of verses on sanctification.

As you shall see on the next post.

SOURCE of sin

 James 1:13

King James Version

13 Let no man say when he is tempted,

I am tempted of God:

for God cannot be tempted with evil,

neither tempteth he any man:

What is sin?

How did it start?

What is the source of sin?

How do you know something is a sin?

How can you avoid committing a sin?

Scripture answers all that.

There was a time, man was innocent.

Genesis 2:25

King James Version

25 And they were both naked,

the man and his wife,

and were not ashamed.

And then, he lost that innocence.

Genesis 3:6-7

King James Version

6 And when the woman saw

that the tree was good for food,

and that it was pleasant to the eyes,

and a tree to be desired to make one wise

she took of the fruit thereof,

and did eat,

and gave also unto her husband with her;

and he did eat.

7 And the eyes of them both were opened,

and they knew that they were naked

and they sewed fig leaves together,

and made themselves aprons.

Man now knew good, and evil.

Genesis 3:22-24

King James Version

22 And the Lord God said,

Behold,

the man is become as one of us,

to know good and evil

and now,

lest he put forth his hand,

and take also of the tree of life,

and eat,

and live for ever:

23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth

from the garden of Eden,

to till the ground from whence he was taken.

24 So he drove out the man;

and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden

Cherubims,

and a flaming sword which turned every way,

to keep the way of the tree of life.

In the desire to be "wise", Eve became foolish.

That's how sin started.

Satan tempted us, by confusing us.

He caused us to disobey GOD.

JESUS tells us the SOURCE of sin:

Mark 7:20-23

King James Version

20 And he said,

That which cometh out of the man,

that defileth the man.

21 For from within,

out of the heart of men,

proceed evil thoughts,

adulteries, fornications, murders,

22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness,

deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye,

blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

23 All these evil things come from within,

and defile the man.

How can we ever trust our human hearts?

Proverbs 20:9

King James Version

9 Who can say,

I have made my heart clean,

I am pure from my sin?

Jeremiah 17:9

King James Version

9 The heart is deceitful above all things,

and desperately wicked:

who can know it?

GOD knows such a heart.

Luke 16:15

King James Version

15 And he said unto them,

Ye are they which justify yourselves before men;

but God knoweth your hearts:

for that which is highly esteemed among men

is abomination in the sight of God.

No wonder GOD wanted to give us a NEW heart:

Ezekiel 36:26-27

King James Version

26 A new heart also will I give you,

and a new spirit will I put within you:

and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh,

and I will give you an heart of flesh.

27 And I will put my spirit within you,

and cause you to walk in my statutes,

and ye shall keep my judgments,

and do them.

We all need major surgery.

OPEN heart surgery.

The kind that has the SPIRIT of GOD in it.

The next post will be a VERY CLEAR lesson on sanctification.

AWARENESS of sin

Is PERFECTION possible?

 2 Timothy 1:7

King James Version

7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;

but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Is perfection possible?

Why the need for perfection?

Doesn't GOD love us, just as we are?

He sure does, but He wouldn't have sent His SON, if we were all not in danger of perishing.

Man's heart is not exactly perfect.

Jeremiah 17:9

King James Version

9 The heart is deceitful above all things,

and desperately wicked:

who can know it?

Sin is death.

Only through JESUS do we have life.

And He promised believers eternal life.

John 6:47

King James Version

47 Verily, verily, I say unto you,

He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

Just as in the days of Noah, we're all back to sinning.

Oblivious to what's coming.

Matthew 24:37-39

King James Version

37 But as the days of Noah were,

so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38 For as in the days that were before the flood

they were eating and drinking,

marrying and giving in marriage,

until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

39 And knew not until the flood came,

and took them all away;

so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

We need JESUS, to be free of sin.

Without JESUS, we can do nothing.

John 15:5

King James Version

5 I am the vine,

ye are the branches:

He that abideth in me,

and I in him,

the same bringeth forth much fruit:

for without me ye can do nothing.

We do not have the capability for clarity, discipline, and self-control, unless we are born again.

And unless we have the SPIRIT of GOD in us, we cannot fight the good fight.

John 3:5-7

King James Version

5 Jesus answered,

Verily, verily, I say unto thee,

Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit,

he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh;

and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.

No ifs, buts, maybe, another day, or perhaps.

We need to be born again.

We'd be shamefaced to have excuses, or alibis.

How can we?

The LORD JESUS gave up His life for our sins.

Must we keep sinning?

Hebrews 10:26

King James Version

26 For if we sin wilfully

after that we have received

the knowledge of the truth,

there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

The SPIRIT of GOD in us will teach us to be holy.

And perfect.

With GOD, everything is possible.

Matthew 19:26

King James Version

26 But Jesus beheld them,

and said unto them,

With men this is impossible;

but with God all things are possible.

You just have to love GOD enough, and enter that narrow gate.

No complaints, no grumblings.

Just take the path to perfection.

Walk the way with JESUS.

Walk the way with His SPIRIT.

JESUS showed us how.

The LORD equipped us how to face the world.

For the world is filled with temptation.

Our senses are constantly bombarded with stimuli.

It is possible to be perfect.

Take it one step at a time.

Conquer flesh.

Make no room for evil to thrive.

Fill your heart with GOD only.

It's really possible.

And doable.

It's the path I've committed myself to take.

There's no question about that, once GOD makes you born again.

Having the heart of a child, keeps you on track.

Would a child's mind be filled with filth?

A child's focused on fun, play, discovery, friendship, creativity.

No wonder JESUS asked we be converted.

Matthew 18:3

King James Version

3 And said,

Verily I say unto you,

Except ye be converted,

and become as little children,

ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Perfection is possible.

By having the mind of a child.

Pure, and undefiled.

Eager to have knowledge of JESUS.

Eager to learn.

Eager to be taught.

Eager to join JESUS.

Eager to hold the LORD's hand.

Eager to be corrected.

Oftentimes, adults complicate things.

When it's really all so simple.

Open your heart to the LORD.

As a child would.

Knowing nothing.

But wanting to know EVERYTHING.

While we're at it, we might as well look into the SOURCE of sin.

WASHED, SANCTIFIED, and JUSTIFIED

Who SANCTIFIES us?

 John 17:17

17 Sanctify them through thy truth:

thy word is truth.

JESUS said only GOD is good.

It but follows only GOD can sanctify us.

3 Now ye are clean through the word

which I have spoken unto you.

to them which are in Christ Jesus,

who walk not after the flesh,

2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus

hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

3 For what the law could not do,

in that it was weak through the flesh,

God sending his own Son

condemned sin in the flesh:

4 That the righteousness of the law

might be fulfilled in us,

who walk not after the flesh,

but after the Spirit.

to be conformed to the image of his Son,

and whom he called, them he also justified:

and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Romans 15:16

before the foundation of the world,

that we should be holy

and without blame before him in love:

5 Having predestinated us

unto the adoption of children

by Jesus Christ to himself,

according to the good pleasure of his will,

6 To the praise of the glory of his grace,

wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

7 In whom we have redemption through his blood,

the forgiveness of sins,

according to the riches of his grace;

Ephesians 1:12-13

by the washing of regeneration,

and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Hebrews 2:9-11

King James Version

9 But we see Jesus,

who was made a little lower than the angels

for the suffering of death,

crowned with glory and honour;

that he by the grace of God

should taste death for every man.

10 For it became him,

for whom are all things,

and by whom are all things,

in bringing many sons unto glory,

to make the captain of their salvation perfect

through sufferings.

11 For both he that sanctifieth

and they who are sanctified are all of one:

for which cause he is not ashamed

to call them brethren,

through the veil,

22 Let us draw near with a true heart

in full assurance of faith,

having our hearts sprinkled

from an evil conscience,

and our bodies washed

with pure water.

Hebrews 12:9-10

King James Version

9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh

which corrected us,

and we gave them reverence:

shall we not much rather be in subjection

chastened us after their own pleasure;

but he for our profit,

that we might be partakers of his holiness.

2 Peter 1:2-7

King James Version

2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you

through the knowledge of God,

and of Jesus our Lord,

3 According as his divine power hath given unto us

all things that pertain unto life and godliness,

through the knowledge of him

that hath called us to glory and virtue:

4 Whereby are given unto us

exceeding great and precious promises:

that by these ye might be

partakers of the divine nature,

having escaped the corruption

that is in the world through lust.

5 And beside this,

giving all diligence,

add to your faith virtue;

and to virtue knowledge;

6 And to knowledge temperance;

and to temperance patience;

and to patience godliness;

7 And to godliness brotherly kindness;

and to brotherly kindness charity.

into his marvellous light;

1 John 1:7

for his seed remaineth in him:

and he cannot sin,

because he is born of God.

24 Now unto him that is able

to keep you from falling,

and to present you faultless

before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

25 To the only wise God our Saviour,

be glory and majesty,

dominion and power,

both now and ever.

Amen.

13 And one of the elders answered,

saying unto me,

What are these which are arrayed in white robes?

and whence came they?

Sir, thou knowest.

These are they which came out of great tribulation,

and have washed their robes,

and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
